Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the dashboard for the Vernon-Lumby election market tracks the implied probability of each candidate winning, based on trading activity. You’ll find a price feed reflecting the current odds, a historical price chart showing how those odds have changed over time, and the 24-hour trading volume, which currently stands at $896. The total volume traded in this market is $14,375. This allows users to gauge market sentiment and see how predictions evolve as new information becomes available.

Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional polling averages. While polls aim to capture a snapshot of current voter intentions, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, incorporating not only stated preferences but also information from various sources and anticipating potential shifts in sentiment. The difference between the market’s implied probability of a candidate winning and the polling averages can be significant, sometimes indicating a perceived advantage or disadvantage not fully captured by polls. This discrepancy can be due to factors like strategic voting or the market’s ability to process nuanced information.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each candidate winning. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular candidate, the higher the price rises, indicating increased confidence in their chances. Conversely, selling shares lowers the price, suggesting decreasing confidence. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.

This market resolves around Oct 25, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on the official results announced by the relevant electoral authority for the Vernon-Lumby British Columbia Legislative Assembly election. The candidate declared the winner by this authority will determine the outcome of this market. The market will then settle, and winning shares will be redeemable for the predetermined payout amount.

Several signals or events could significantly impact this market. Major developments in the campaign, such as significant policy announcements from candidates, unexpected endorsements, or impactful debate performances, could shift voter sentiment and therefore market prices. Changes in polling data, even if they don’t fully align with the market, can also cause adjustments. Furthermore, external events – regional or provincial issues gaining prominence – could influence voter priorities and move this market. Unexpected candidate withdrawals or controversies would also likely have a substantial effect.
