This set of markets tracks the performance of the USD to CAD currency exchange rate at a specific future moment. Each market evaluates whether the rate exceeds a particular threshold, allowing participants to speculate on potential movements in the exchange value.
All markets resolve based on the USDCAD exchange rate's opening candlestick value at 5pm ET on October 23, 2026, as published by Pyth. For a market to resolve as 'Yes,' the rate must be above the specified threshold (ranging from 1.387 to 1.425) at that exact time. If the rate does not meet or exceed the threshold, the market resolves as 'No.' The resolution uses the most recent available data from Pyth if no value is published at the exact time, and revisions made after the expiration time are disregarded. All rates are rounded to four decimal places for evaluation.
Currently, prediction market odds represent a collective forecast of the USDCAD price, aggregating the views of many individual traders. These odds often differ from traditional analyst forecasts, as they reflect real-money stakes and can incorporate a wider range of information and perspectives than a single analyst might consider. It is common to see discrepancies between prediction markets and polls or expert opinions, especially when significant uncertainty surrounds the event. This market provides a unique view of expectations, driven by financial incentives.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different USDCAD price ranges. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that price range being the correct one at the specified time. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders adjust their bids and asks based on their own analysis and expectations, leading to a dynamic pricing process. The market's price movements are driven by supply and demand, with increased buying pressure raising prices and increased selling pressure lowering them.
This market resolves around Oct 23, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the USDCAD price at 5:00 PM EDT on October 23rd is verifiable from credible public reporting. The market will settle to the value of 100 minus the absolute difference between the final USDCAD price and the market's midpoint. This ensures a clear and objective determination of the outcome based on publicly available data. Traders should monitor external sources for the official price to understand the final settlement.
Several factors could significantly influence the USDCAD price and, consequently, this market. Major economic data releases from the United States and Canada, such as inflation reports, employment figures, and GDP growth data, are key catalysts. Unexpected shifts in monetary policy by the Federal Reserve or the Bank of Canada could also drive substantial price movements. Geopolitical events, changes in global risk sentiment, and fluctuations in oil prices, given Canada’s status as a major oil exporter, are additional signals to watch that could impact this market.
