This set of markets tracks potential movements in the exchange rate between the US Dollar and the Canadian Dollar at a specific future moment. Each market evaluates whether the rate surpasses a particular threshold, offering insights into various possible economic scenarios.
All markets resolve based on the USDCAD exchange rate's opening candlestick value at 5pm ET on October 9, 2026, as published by Pyth. For each market, if the rate exceeds the specified threshold (e.g., 1.405, 1.407, etc.), the market resolves to Yes; otherwise, it resolves to No. The resolution uses the most recent available data from Pyth if no value is published exactly at 5pm ET. Post-expiration revisions to the exchange rate are disregarded, and values are rounded to four decimal places. These rules apply uniformly across all thresholds, ensuring consistent evaluation for each market.
Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional analyst forecasts. While analysts may rely on economic models and geopolitical assessments, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, representing a diverse range of opinions and information. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, especially when unexpected events occur or when there is significant uncertainty surrounding the USDCAD exchange rate. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights into market expectations and potential risks.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing different USDCAD price ranges. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that price range being the actual USDCAD price at the specified time. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders adjust their bids and asks based on their own analysis and expectations, leading to a dynamic pricing process. The market depth and trading activity indicate the level of confidence in each potential outcome, giving a real-time view of market sentiment regarding the USDCAD exchange rate.
This market resolves around Oct 9, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final USDCAD exchange rate at 5:00 PM EDT on October 9th will be used to determine which price range contract wins. The resolution will be based on a widely recognized and trusted financial data source, ensuring a transparent and accurate outcome. Traders will then be able to claim their winnings or adjust their strategies for future markets.
Several factors could significantly influence this market before resolution. Major economic data releases from the United States or Canada, such as employment reports or inflation figures, could cause substantial shifts in the USDCAD exchange rate. Unexpected geopolitical events, changes in monetary policy by the Federal Reserve or the Bank of Canada, and shifts in global risk sentiment are also potential catalysts. Any news that alters expectations about the relative strength of the US and Canadian economies could lead to increased trading activity and price movements in this market.
