This group forecasts the winner of the 2026 Surrey, British Columbia mayoral election. Markets cover named candidates as well as an 'other' option, allowing for speculation on potential contenders not yet formally announced. Resolution hinges on the official election results.
The 2026 Surrey, BC mayoral election is currently scheduled to be held on October 17, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next mayor of Surrey as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting; however, if there is any ambiguity in the results, this market will resolve according to official information from Surrey.
The event resolves to Yes for any market where the named candidate is officially declared the winner of the 2026 Surrey mayoral election. Each candidate-specific market has an identical resolution condition: a Yes outcome occurs exclusively if that particular candidate emerges victorious. All markets include a secondary rule allowing for accelerated resolution should a consensus of credible media outlets report the election outcome, enabling quicker settlement without waiting for formal certification. No other conditions or exceptions affect the resolution; the sole determinant is the official or widely accepted media-concurred result identifying the elected mayor among the listed candidates.
Several events could significantly impact this market. Major endorsements, significant fundraising announcements, and unexpected controversies involving candidates could all shift trader sentiment. Changes in polling data, while not always directly correlated, can also influence prices. Furthermore, any unforeseen events impacting voter turnout or campaign strategies could move the market. A key event to watch will be any debates or public forums featuring the candidates, as these can provide valuable insights into their platforms and performance.
