This market will resolve to "Yes" if Vladimir Putin meets with one or more Iranian government officials by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". A meeting is defined as any encounter where both Putin and one or more Iranian government officials are present and interact with each other in person. An exchange of words, handshake, direct conversation, or other clear personal interaction between the named individuals will qualify as a meeting. Merely standing in proximity, making eye contact, or being present in the same room or event without direct interaction will not qualify. The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.

Currently, prediction market odds suggest a different likelihood of a Putin-Iran meeting than what is indicated by publicly available polls and expert analysis. While polls often focus on stated intentions or general geopolitical expectations, this market reflects what traders are willing to wager on the actual occurrence of the event. This difference arises because traders have ‘skin in the game’ and are incentivized to accurately assess the probability, potentially leading to a more nuanced view than traditional surveys. The market’s current price reflects a collective judgment that may diverge from initial expectations.
On Polymarket, this market is priced using a continuous double auction. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about whether Putin will meet with Iranian officials before the Dec 31, 2026. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, with higher prices indicating a greater perceived probability of the event occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price effectively represents the collective wisdom of traders, providing a real-time assessment of the likelihood of this geopolitical event. The current price reflects the combined expectations of all participants.
This market resolves around Dec 31, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will depend on whether verifiable evidence emerges confirming a formal meeting between Vladimir Putin and officially designated representatives of the Iranian government. This includes in-person meetings, or officially sanctioned video conferences that meet a defined threshold of diplomatic engagement. The outcome will be determined by widely accepted news sources and official government statements, ensuring a transparent and objective assessment of whether the event occurred.
Several factors could significantly impact this market. A major shift in diplomatic relations between Russia and Iran, such as a significant escalation or de-escalation of tensions in the region, would likely cause movement. Official statements from either government regarding potential meetings, or conversely, a clear indication that no meeting is planned, would also be influential. Unexpected geopolitical events, like a change in leadership in either country or a major international crisis, could also shift trader sentiment and move the market. Any credible reporting on behind-the-scenes negotiations would be closely watched.
