The Academy Awards are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to honor outstanding artistic and technical achievements in film. For the 99th Academy Awards in 2027, nominations are scheduled to be announced on January 21, followed by the ceremony on March 14, 2027. This market will resolve according to the listed film that wins the 99th Academy Award for Best Picture. If a film is not officially nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture when the 2027 nominees are announced, the corresponding market will immediately resolve to "No". In case of a tie for the winner, this market will resolve in favor of the nominated film whose listed title comes first in alphabetical order. If, for any reason, no winner is declared by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Academy Awards and AMPAS, including data from their website (e.g., https://www.oscars.org/) and the live broadcast of the award ceremony; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Compared to traditional analyst forecasts, prediction market odds often reflect a blend of expert opinions and crowd-sourced speculation. While analysts may weigh factors like box office performance and critical acclaim, traders in this market incorporate real-time betting dynamics and sentiment shifts. Sometimes the odds align closely with high-profile predictions, but there are also occasions when market momentum pushes a different film to the forefront. Tracking both sources together can give a fuller picture of pre-Oscars sentiment.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, traders determine pricing through active buying and selling of contracts representing possible winners. The current implied probability for each film is shown as a percentage, derived from the market’s ongoing activity. As new reviews, awards buzz, or controversies surface, these probabilities can shift quickly. The top outcome’s chance is currently displayed at 53.5%, reflecting the collective assessment of Polymarket participants at this moment.
This market resolves around Jul 1, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The winner will be determined by the official Oscars ceremony announcements, and the market will close immediately after the results are announced. Traders can place bets up until the final moments before the ceremony, with the market settling based on the publicly confirmed winner.
Several signals could shift the odds in this market before resolution. Key catalysts include major award nominations, critical reviews from influential critics, audience awards from film festivals, and any controversy or backlash surrounding the films. Performance at early award shows, social media trends, and even unexpected director or actor endorsements can also sway trader sentiment. As the Oscars approach, any last-minute polling data or buzz from press events may cause rapid movements in the market.
