This market tracks whether the Labour Party will win the popular vote by a margin of 15 percentage points or greater in New Zealand's 2026 legislative election, measured by party list votes under the mixed-member proportional system. On Polymarket, the leading outcome currently stands at 79.0%. Resolution will be determined by the official results from the New Zealand Electoral Commission based on valid party list votes cast across both the general and Maori electorates. Watch the November 7, 2026 election results for the final party list vote tallies that will settle this market.
A general election is scheduled to be held in New Zealand on November 7, 2026. New Zealand uses a mixed-member proportional electoral system in which most voters cast two votes: one for a candidate in a single-member electorate and one party vote for a political party list. This market will resolve according to the margin of victory between the top two parties in terms of party list votes in this election. The “margin of victory” is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid party list votes received by the party that wins the most party list votes and the party that wins the second-most party list votes. Percentages of valid party list votes received by each party will be determined by dividing the total number of valid party list votes each of the top two parties receives by the sum of all valid party list votes cast in the election. This market includes party list votes cast by both the general electorate and the Maori electorate. This market will resolve solely based on party list votes cast in this election. Electorate votes will not be considered. If two or more parties tie for the most valid party list votes in this election, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the party whose listed name comes first in alphabetical order. If the results of this election are not definitively known by October 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. This market will resolve based on the official election results reported by the New Zealand Electoral Commission (https://elections.nz/). However, an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also suffice.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing their beliefs about the New Zealand election outcome. The price of a contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders adjust their bids and asks based on new information and their own analysis, leading to a dynamic price discovery process. The current price indicates the collective wisdom of the crowd regarding the likely result of the election, and is impacted by volume of $25,273.
This market resolves around Nov 8, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on the official results released by the New Zealand Electoral Commission regarding the popular vote margin in the election. The official results will be used to determine the winning outcome and settle all outstanding contracts. Traders should monitor official sources for the final vote count as this will determine the final outcome of this market.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market before resolution. Major policy announcements from key political parties, unexpected shifts in public opinion revealed by late-stage polling data, and significant economic developments could all influence trader sentiment. Furthermore, any unforeseen events or controversies involving leading candidates could also lead to substantial price fluctuations. Changes in the political landscape, such as coalition negotiations or unexpected endorsements, are also likely to impact trading activity and the overall price of contracts in this market.
