Description

This market will resolve according to the winner of the 2026 midterm North Carolina U.S. Senate election, inclusive of any run-offs. A candidate shall be considered to represent a party in the event that he or she is the nominee of the party in question. Candidates other than the Democratic or Republican nominee (e.g., Greens, Libertarian, independent) may be added at a later date. Candidates who run as independents will not be encompassed by the “Democrat” or “Republican” options regardless of any affiliation they may have with the party. The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party. The resolution source for this market is the Associated Press, Fox News, and NBC. This market will resolve once all three sources call the race for the same candidate. If all three sources haven’t called the race in this state for the same candidate, this market will resolve based on the official certification.

Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional polling averages. Polling data provides a snapshot of current voter sentiment, while this market aggregates the informed opinions of individuals who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to factors like poll weighting, sampling bias, and the ability of market participants to incorporate a wider range of information, including fundraising data, candidate performance, and political events. It's common to see this market diverge from polls, especially as the election draws nearer and new information becomes available.

On Opinion, this market is priced through a continuous auction, where traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief in the probability of each candidate winning. The price of a contract directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Opinion, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a candidate will win, the higher the price of their contract will rise. Conversely, if confidence in a candidate wanes, the price will fall. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities accordingly.

This market resolves around Nov 4, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome will be determined by the official results reported by election authorities for the North Carolina Senate race. The candidate who receives the most votes will be declared the winner, and that will be the basis for settling this market. Traders who correctly predicted the winner will receive a payout based on the odds at the time of their trade.
