This set of markets tracks potential declines in the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield over a specific week in 2026. Each market has a different threshold, representing various levels of yield decrease. The outcome depends on whether the official daily yield published by the U.S. Treasury falls below the specified level at any point during the period.
All markets cover the period from October 2, 2026, to October 9, 2026, and resolve based on the Daily Treasury Par Yield Curve Rate for the 10-year tenor published by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. For each market, if the published yield falls below the specified threshold on any business day within this period, the market resolves to 'Yes.' Intraday values are not considered; only the first published daily value for each business day is used, unless the exchange identifies a material error. If a threshold is met, the market may expire early per Rule 7.2. Otherwise, expiration occurs by 7:00 PM ET on the first business day after the final daily value of the period is published, or one week after the period ends, whichever comes first. All markets share these resolution and expiration procedures, differing only in their yield thresholds.
Currently, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than many traditional analyst forecasts regarding the future direction of the 10-year Treasury yield. While some analysts predict a continued rise in yields due to persistent inflation, this market suggests a possibility of yields declining. It’s important to note that analyst forecasts often rely on economic models and assumptions, while this market incorporates the collective wisdom of traders reacting to real-time information and events. Discrepancies between the two can highlight differing beliefs about the likelihood of various economic scenarios.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell contracts at prices determined by supply and demand. Each contract represents a specific 10-year Treasury yield level. As more traders believe the yield will fall to a particular level, the price of contracts representing that level increases, and vice versa. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a contract reflects the probability, as perceived by the market, that the actual 10-year Treasury yield will be at or below that level by the resolution date. Traders can use this information to express their own views on the future yield.
This market resolves around Oct 9, 2026, with the outcome determined by the actual 10-year US Treasury yield on that date. The yield will be verified against credible public reporting from financial data providers. Traders holding contracts corresponding to yield levels at or below the actual yield will receive a payout of $1 per contract, while those holding contracts for higher yields will not. The market provides a way to speculate on, or hedge against, movements in the 10-year Treasury yield.
Several key signals and events could significantly impact this market. Unexpected changes in inflation data, Federal Reserve policy announcements regarding interest rates, and geopolitical events that affect global economic stability are all potential catalysts. Stronger-than-expected economic growth could push yields higher, while a recessionary environment could drive them lower. Any news that alters expectations about the future path of monetary policy is likely to cause volatility in this market. Monitoring these factors will be crucial for understanding price movements.
