$
This market will resolve to "Yes" if the Treasury 5-year yield reaches or is higher than the listed value for any date between September 3, 2026 and December 31, 2026. Otherwise this market will resolve to "No". This market will resolve as soon as the Treasury 5-year yield reaches or is higher than the listed value, or once data is available for December 31, 2026. If no qualifying value is published and data is not available for December 31, 2026 by January 14, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market is the Department of the treasury, specifically the data listed under "Daily Treasury Par Yield Curve Rates" for the column "5 Yr" (see: https://home.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/interest-rates/TextView?type=daily_treasury_yield_curve&field_tdr_date_value=2026).

Currently, prediction market participants are pricing in a relatively high probability that the 5-year Treasury yield will surpass certain thresholds before 2027. This contrasts with some analyst forecasts, which suggest a more moderate increase or even a potential decrease in yields. However, it’s important to note that analyst opinions vary widely, and this market reflects a collective judgment based on real-money bets. The market’s implied probabilities offer a unique perspective compared to traditional polls or individual expert predictions regarding the future direction of interest rates.
On Polymarket, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders can buy and sell contracts representing their belief about whether the 5-year Treasury yield will reach specific levels. The price of each contract reflects the market’s collective assessment of that outcome’s probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust accordingly, providing a dynamic and real-time view of expectations. The current top market, “Will the 5-year Treasury yield hit 4.70% before 2027?”, trades at a price reflecting its 81.7% probability.
This market resolves around Dec 31, 2026, with the outcome determined by verifying the highest 5-year Treasury yield recorded before that date against credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury and other reliable financial sources. The specific yield level reached will determine which outcome is considered correct, and payouts will be distributed accordingly to those who correctly predicted the outcome of this market. Traders should monitor economic data releases and Federal Reserve policy announcements leading up to the resolution date.
Several factors could significantly impact this market between now and Dec 31, 2026. Key economic indicators, such as inflation reports, employment data, and GDP growth figures, will heavily influence expectations about future interest rate policy. Unexpected shifts in Federal Reserve communication regarding its monetary policy stance could also trigger substantial price movements. Geopolitical events or unforeseen economic shocks could also play a role, as these can affect investor risk appetite and demand for U.S. Treasury bonds. Monitoring these signals will be crucial for understanding the dynamics of this market.
