This market will resolve to "Up" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, October 26, 2026 is higher than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. This market will resolve to "Down" if the official Hang Seng Index closing price for Hang Seng (HSI) on Monday, October 26, 2026 is lower than the official Hang Seng Index closing price for HSI on the most recent prior trading day. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its most recent closing price, unless that Friday were a market holiday, in which case it would refer to Thursday, or the next most recent trading day. If the two specified closing prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. Note that all figures will be rounded to the nearest cent using standard rounding. If HSI does not trade at all during the regular session, the market will resolve 50-50. If either of the relevant days are shortened (for example, due to a market holiday schedule), the official closing price published by Hang Seng Index for that shortened session will still be used for resolution. If either of the relevant days have no official closing price (for example, due to a trading halt into the market close, system issue, delisting, or other disruption), the market will use the last valid on-exchange trade price of the regular session as the effective closing price. The resolution source for this market is the Wall Street Journal, specifically the Close values published by the WSJ under "Historical Prices". Currently, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than many traditional analyst forecasts for the Hang Seng. While many analysts predict a moderate upward trend due to recent economic data, this market shows a more nuanced view, with significant volume traded on both the 'up' and 'down' outcomes. This suggests traders are accounting for a wider range of potential catalysts and uncertainties than are typically incorporated into standard financial modeling. It's important to note that prediction markets often incorporate information and perspectives not readily available in conventional analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief about whether the Hang Seng will close higher or lower on October 26. The price of these contracts directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price fluctuates based on supply and demand, driven by new information and shifts in trader sentiment. Higher demand for the 'up' contract, for example, will drive its price up, increasing the implied probability of a positive close.
This market resolves around Oct 26, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the closing price of the Hang Seng Index on October 26 will be used to determine whether the market settles in favor of the 'up' or 'down' outcome. The official closing price, as reported by a reputable financial news source, will serve as the definitive data point for resolution. Traders will then be able to claim their winnings or adjust their strategies based on the final result.
Several key signals and events could significantly move this market before Oct 26, 2026. Major economic data releases from China, such as GDP growth figures or manufacturing indices, will likely have a substantial impact. Geopolitical developments, including any shifts in US-China relations, could also introduce volatility. Unexpected policy announcements from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority or the People's Bank of China are further catalysts to watch. Finally, significant corporate earnings reports from major Hang Seng constituents could influence trader sentiment and drive price movements.
