This set of markets tracks whether the GBPUSD exchange rate will exceed various thresholds at a specific future moment. Each market corresponds to a different price level, allowing participants to assess the likelihood of the rate being above that level at the exact time and date specified.
All markets resolve based on the GBPUSD exchange rate's opening candlestick value at 5pm ET on October 16, 2026, as published by Pyth. For each market, if the rate at that precise moment is above the specified threshold, the market resolves to Yes; otherwise, it resolves to No. The resolution uses the most recent available data from Pyth if no value is published exactly at 5pm ET. Revisions to the exchange rate after the expiration time are disregarded. All rates are rounded to four decimal places for resolution purposes.
Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional analyst forecasts. While analysts may rely on economic indicators and modeling, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, capturing a broader range of information and potential black swan events. Discrepancies can arise due to differing methodologies and the inherent biases present in both approaches. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to faster price discovery than traditional forecasts allow. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights into market sentiment.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different possible GBPUSD price ranges. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that price range occurring at the specified time. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are incentivized to set accurate probabilities, as profitable trades depend on correctly anticipating market movements. As more traders participate, the prices converge towards a collective assessment of the most likely outcome. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to efficiently incorporate new information and reflect changing expectations.
This market resolves around Oct 16, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final price of GBPUSD at 5:00 PM EDT on October 16th will be sourced from a widely recognized financial data provider and compared against the contract ranges offered in this market. The contracts corresponding to the correct price range will pay out to contract holders, while those representing incorrect ranges will expire worthless. This ensures a transparent and objective resolution process based on real-world data.
Several factors could significantly influence this market. Unexpected macroeconomic data releases from the United Kingdom or the United States, such as inflation reports or employment figures, could trigger substantial price movements. Geopolitical events, including shifts in global risk sentiment or major political announcements, could also impact the GBPUSD exchange rate. Central bank policy decisions from the Bank of England or the Federal Reserve regarding interest rates or quantitative easing will be closely watched. Any surprising news related to the economic health of either country could also move this market.
