This set of markets tracks whether the GBPUSD exchange rate will exceed various threshold levels at a specific future moment. Each market corresponds to a different threshold, allowing participants to speculate on the precise level of the exchange rate at that time.
All markets resolve based on the GBPUSD exchange rate's opening candlestick value at 5pm ET on October 9, 2026, as published by Pyth. For each market, if the rate is above the specified threshold at that exact time, the market resolves to Yes; otherwise, it resolves to No. The resolution uses the most recent available data from Pyth if no value is published at the exact time, and revisions made after the expiration time are disregarded. All rates are rounded to four decimal places for resolution purposes.
Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional analyst forecasts. While analysts may rely on economic models and geopolitical assessments, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, representing a diverse range of informed opinions. It’s common to see discrepancies, particularly when unexpected events or “black swan” scenarios are considered. This difference arises because prediction markets allow traders to express their beliefs directly, potentially incorporating factors not fully captured in conventional analyses. Examining these differences can offer valuable insights into market sentiment.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, where traders buy and sell contracts representing different possible GBPUSD price outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders participate, the prices converge to reflect the collective belief about the future price. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are incentivized to provide accurate predictions, as profitable trades are rewarded. The current volume indicates the level of interest and confidence in various price ranges.
This market resolves around Oct 9, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The final price will be determined by the GBPUSD exchange rate at 5:00 PM EDT on October 9, 2026, as reported by a widely recognized financial data provider. The market will settle to 100 for the contract closest to the actual price at that time. Traders holding winning contracts will receive a payout based on the odds at the time of their purchase, while losing contracts will expire worthless.
Numerous economic and geopolitical factors could significantly influence this market. Major events such as unexpected changes in interest rate policies by the Bank of England or the Federal Reserve, surprising inflation data releases from either the UK or the US, and unforeseen political developments in either country are all potential catalysts. Furthermore, shifts in global risk sentiment, triggered by events like trade wars or international conflicts, could also drive substantial price movements. Any news impacting the relative strength of the British and American economies has the potential to move this market.
