The 2026 midterm elections are scheduled to be held on November 3, 2026. This market will resolve according to the US Senate race which has the smallest margin of victory. For the purpose of this market, the “margin of victory” is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first- and second-place candidates. Percentages of the valid votes received by each candidate will be determined by dividing the total number of valid votes each of the top two candidates receives by the sum of all valid votes cast in the election. For elections that include runoffs, ranked-choice, or other multi-round elections, the relevant margin of victory will be that of the round in which the winner is determined. If two state margins of victory are identical, this market will resolve to the tied state whose name comes first alphabetically. This market will consider all regular and special Senate elections that determine representation in the upcoming 120th Congress and are scheduled to take place in November 2026 as of October 31, 2026. The resolution source for this market will be a compilation of all of the relevant state election authorities responsible for certifying statewide elections, however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different assessment than traditional polling averages. While polls provide a snapshot of voter preference at a specific moment, this market aggregates the informed opinions of many individuals, incentivized to be accurate. Discrepancies can arise due to factors polls may not fully capture, such as voter turnout, strategic voting, or unforeseen events. It’s common to see this market adjust more rapidly to new information than polls, offering a potentially more dynamic view of the race’s trajectory.
On Polymarket, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. This creates a dynamic and efficient way to forecast the closest Senate race.
This market resolves around Nov 4, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the market will resolve to the Senate race with the smallest margin of victory, as determined by the official election results. The resolution will be based on the final, certified vote counts from all relevant states, and will identify which race was the closest after all votes are tallied and any recounts are completed.
Several factors could significantly impact this market. Major campaign announcements, shifts in candidate fundraising, significant endorsements, and unexpected political events could all cause traders to reassess their predictions. Polling data releases, particularly those showing substantial changes in voter preferences, will also likely influence the market. Furthermore, any developments affecting voter turnout or the overall political landscape could lead to shifts in the odds, as traders react to new information and adjust their forecasts.
