The markets track the performance of major retail companies' credit card spending in October 2026, measured against specific thresholds. The index reflects the average year-over-year change in spending across these retailers, offering insight into consumer spending trends during that month.
All markets resolve based on the Carbon Arc Big Box credit card spend array index for October 2026, published by Carbon Arc and recorded by Kalshi at 11:59 p.m. ET on the 4th calendar day after the end of October 2026 (i.e., November 4, 2026). The index is the equally weighted arithmetic mean of year-over-year indices for Walmart Inc., Target, Best Buy Co., and Costco Wholesale Corporation, each weighted at 1/4. An index value of 100 indicates equal spending compared to the same month in the prior year, with deviations indicating growth or decline. Markets resolve to Yes if the recorded index exceeds the specified threshold (ranging from above 88 to above 108). No later corrections or revisions to the index will affect the resolution. Comparing prediction market odds to analyst forecasts reveals how collective intelligence differs from expert opinions. Often, this market demonstrates a unique perspective, incorporating a wider range of data points and potential scenarios than traditional forecasts might capture. While analysts may focus on established economic indicators, the market can react quickly to emerging trends or unexpected events. Discrepancies between the two can highlight areas where the market perceives risks or opportunities that analysts have overlooked, or vice versa. It's a fascinating look at differing approaches to anticipating future outcomes.
On Kalshi, this market is priced using a continuous double auction, meaning buyers and sellers set the prices through their bids and asks. The current price reflects the market’s consensus expectation of the probability of a particular outcome. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price will fluctuate to reflect the evolving sentiment. Traders can buy contracts representing their belief that an outcome will occur, or sell contracts if they believe it won’t. This dynamic pricing mechanism ensures the market remains responsive to changing conditions and reflects the collective wisdom of the crowd.
