This market tracks whether the Bank of Canada will raise its overnight rate target at any point during 2026. On Polymarket, the probability of at least one rate hike occurring stands at 56.0%. Resolution will be determined by official Bank of Canada announcements regarding changes to the overnight rate target, with credible reporting used as a secondary source if needed. Watch for the Bank of Canada's scheduled policy decision announcements throughout 2026, with final resolution occurring on December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET.
This market will resolve to “Yes” if the Bank of Canada's target for the overnight rate is increased at any point between market creation and December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. This market may not resolve to "No" until December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET has passed. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Bank of Canada (https://www.bankofcanada.ca/core-functions/monetary-policy/key-interest-rate/#target-dates); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief about the outcome. The price of a contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy contracts indicating a rate hike, the price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and represents the aggregated forecast of all participants.
This market resolves around Jan 1, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the resolution will be based on whether the Bank of Canada officially announces a rate hike at any point during the calendar year 2026. The official announcements from the Bank of Canada will be the determining factor, and the resolution will reflect this official stance. Traders should monitor the Bank of Canada's monetary policy reports and press conferences for relevant updates.
Several key economic indicators and events could significantly influence this market. Unexpected changes in Canadian inflation rates, employment figures, or GDP growth could all shift trader sentiment. Furthermore, statements from Bank of Canada officials regarding future monetary policy, or global economic shocks like geopolitical instability or a recession, could also trigger substantial price movements. Any surprise announcements regarding government spending or fiscal policy could also be a catalyst, as these factors can impact inflationary pressures and influence the Bank of Canada's decisions.
