Currently, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional analyst forecasts for whether an app will reach the top spot in the US App Store. While analysts often provide qualitative assessments, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, translating diverse opinions into a quantifiable probability. Discrepancies between the two can highlight areas where the market anticipates factors not fully considered by conventional analysis, or vice versa. It’s important to note that analyst forecasts are often based on limited information and can be subject to bias.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders believe an app *will* be #1, the price of shares representing that outcome increases. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s depth and liquidity, indicated by the trading volume, influence how efficiently the price reflects new information and changing sentiment.
