Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to trade based on their own information and analysis. If a significant discrepancy emerges between prediction market prices and sportsbook odds, it could indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the probability of a particular outcome. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities and are subject to change as new information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, constantly adjusting based on new information and changing sentiment regarding the Greiner vs Malmstrom match. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to evolving expectations.
