This market tracks whether Delcy Rodríguez will be the de facto leader of Venezuela at the end of 2026, defined as the person exercising primary executive authority. Currently, the aggregated probability across Polymarket and Kalshi gives a 93.5% chance to this outcome. Nicolás Maduro is currently assessed at 6.0% probability. Resolution will be determined by a consensus of credible reporting assessing who exercises effective governing authority at the specified time. Market participants should watch the scheduled presidential elections, currently planned for the second half of 2026, as a key signal for potential shifts in power dynamics before the resolution date of January 8, 2027.
This market will resolve to the individual who de facto holds and exercises the powers of the head of state of Venezuela on December 31, 2026 at 12:00 PM ET. For the purposes of this market, “de facto holds” refers to the individual who exercises primary governing authority over the Venezuelan state at that time, including effective control over the armed forces, national institutions, and core executive decision-making, regardless of formal title, constitutional designation, or international recognition. Formal appointment, recognition by the United Nations, or recognition by foreign governments is not required. If more than one individual claims to be head of state, this market will resolve to the individual who demonstrably exercises primary governing control within Venezuela’s territory at the specified time. Indicators of de facto authority may include control over the armed forces and security services; control over executive ministries and state administrative institutions; enforcement of national laws; issuance of binding national directives; and effective control over the capital and core state infrastructure. Symbolic status, foreign recognition without domestic control, nomination without effective authority, or expired prior service will not qualify. If no individual exercises effective governing control at the specified time, this market will resolve to “No Head of State”. The primary resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting assessing who exercises effective governing authority at the specified time.
Performance is defined as live appearance on stage or in official broadcast/stream where the artist performs through singing, dancing, DJ-ing, or playing an instrument, either as a scheduled performer or guest appearance during another artist's performance. Guest appearances with live music performance and festival appearances with live sets qualify. Non-qualifying activities include: appearing only as award presenter or host, being in audience without performing, having music played without participation, appearing in video montages or tribute segments, pre-show or post-show performances outside official event timeframe, appearances without performing (speeches, award acceptances, interviews, promotional events), canceled or postponed shows with no performance in the time period, rehearsals and sound checks, and virtual participation via livestream into the venue.
Prediction market odds, like those in this market, often provide a different perspective than traditional polling averages. Polls capture stated preferences, which can be influenced by social desirability bias or inaccurate self-reporting. This market, however, reflects what individuals are willing to *stake* on an outcome, offering a more incentivized and potentially accurate signal. While polls may indicate general sentiment, the financial commitment inherent in prediction markets can reveal deeper beliefs about the likelihood of various scenarios unfolding in Venezuelan politics. Discrepancies between polls and this market can highlight areas where expectations diverge.
Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can differ due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform has its own user base, trading limits, and fee structure, which can influence price discovery. Additionally, differing liquidity and trading activity on each platform can create temporary discrepancies. For instance, a large trade on Polymarket might shift the odds there without immediately impacting Kalshi. Furthermore, subtle differences in how each platform handles market creation and risk management can also contribute to price variations in this market. These differences are normal and reflect the independent nature of each exchange.
This market resolves around Jan 8, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on which individual is widely recognized as exercising de facto leadership in Venezuela at that time, meaning the person with the most actual power and influence, regardless of formal title. The outcome will be verified against credible public sources, such as reports from reputable news organizations and analyses from political experts. Traders should monitor developments in Venezuelan politics leading up to the resolution date to assess potential shifts in the likelihood of different outcomes.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market. Major political developments within Venezuela, such as changes in government leadership, significant policy shifts, or widespread protests, would likely impact predictions. Economic factors, like fluctuations in oil prices or changes in international sanctions, could also play a role. Unexpected geopolitical events or interventions from external actors could also shift the odds. Furthermore, any credible reports regarding the health or intentions of key political figures would likely cause movement in this market. Monitoring these factors is crucial for understanding the evolving probabilities.
