Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the views of many individuals with varying levels of knowledge. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before a significant amount of trading occurs. Comparing these odds can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, but remember that each represents a different form of forecasting.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. For example, a share priced at 60 means there is a 60% implied probability of that outcome being correct. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date information and expectations.
