This event group tracks precipitation levels in Seattle during July 2026, with markets covering various precipitation thresholds. The group includes markets on Polymarket for July 2026 and on Kalshi for August 2026, each with specific resolution criteria based on NOAA and CLISEA data respectively.
This market will resolve according to the total precipitation in inches in Seattle between July 1 and July 31, 2026, 11:59PM ET according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The resolution source for this market will be NOAA, specifically the figure for July 2026 when the "Monthly summarized data" for "Seattle City Area" is selected with the variable set to "Precipitation" at the https://www.weather.gov/wrh/climate?wfo=sew link once that figure is finalized for the whole month of July 2026. If the reported data falls exactly between two brackets, this market will resolve to the higher bracket. The resolution source for this market measures precipitation to 2 decimal places (e.g., 1.54), thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving this market. Any revisions to precipitation recorded after data is finalized for this market's timeframe will not be considered for this market's resolution.
The event determines if total precipitation measured at CLISEA in Seattle during August 2026 exceeds one of several predefined thresholds (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 inches). Each market corresponds to a specific threshold, resolving to Yes if the official National Weather Service (NWS) Climatological Report (Daily) for Seattle-Tacoma, WA, confirms that total rainfall for the month strictly surpasses that threshold. All markets share the same data source and methodology, with the NWS report serving as the definitive authority. Traders must rely on the latest published NWS data, as preliminary reports may undergo revisions due to rounding, conversion, or reporting delays. Secondary rules emphasize caution when using third-party weather services, as only NWS data will determine the final resolution. The structure allows multiple markets to resolve simultaneously based on the same underlying precipitation measurement, with higher thresholds representing increasingly rare rainfall events.
Currently, this market shows a strong bias toward drier conditions, with probabilities reflecting traders' expectations more aggressively than many public weather outlooks. While analysts often predict typical July rainfall for Seattle, the betting odds imply a lower chance of significant precipitation. This gap can arise from traders incorporating short-term forecasts, model updates, or sentiment shifts not yet reflected in broader reports. Monitoring this market lets participants see where crowd-sourced predictions diverge from institutional forecasts.
This market resolves around Sep 2, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. By that date, official weather data will determine whether the precipitation threshold is met. The result will reflect objective measurements, ensuring a clear, data-driven conclusion for all participants across platforms.
Market movement will likely hinge on medium-term weather forecasts, especially updates from major meteorological services. Any shift in predicted storm systems, temperature anomalies, or Pacific Ocean patterns could reshape trader expectations. Additionally, early-month precipitation reports — even preliminary ones — may cause rapid re-pricing, particularly on higher-volume platforms like Polymarket, where small data cues can trigger larger adjustments.
