Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in how each assesses the probabilities. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information, potentially offering more efficient pricing than traditional methods. Comparing the two can provide a more comprehensive view of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's likelihood. This allows for a fluid and responsive pricing system based on collective intelligence.
