Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs about the outcome. It's common to see discrepancies emerge, especially as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. These differences can stem from varying levels of expertise among participants or differing interpretations of relevant factors. Comparing these odds can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price dynamically adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. This creates a real-time assessment of the event's likelihood, driven entirely by supply and demand within the Polymarket ecosystem.
