Prediction market odds, such as those found on Polymarket and Kalshi, often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and risk assessment, while this market relies on individuals betting with their own capital. This can lead to discrepancies, especially when public sentiment diverges from the sportsbook’s initial assessment. However, both aim to accurately predict the probability of an event, and both can be valuable tools for informed decision-making.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi may differ due to variations in user base, trading volume, and market-specific rules. Polymarket currently favors a draw at 96 percent, while Kalshi leans toward CDT Real Oruro winning. These differences can also arise from varying levels of information available to traders on each platform, or simply from differing interpretations of the same information. Furthermore, the liquidity and volume on each platform can influence price discovery, leading to temporary discrepancies until arbitrage opportunities are exploited.
