Prediction market odds often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the wisdom of the crowd and the incentive structure. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market reflects the collective belief of traders who have ‘skin in the game’. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, they can take a position in this market, driving the odds closer to their perceived true probability. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially early in the betting cycle, as prediction markets can incorporate information more quickly.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand, influenced by news, analysis, and the overall sentiment of the trading community. This dynamic pricing allows for a constantly updated assessment of the event’s potential results.

Any news regarding player injuries, changes in playing conditions, or updates on their recent performance would likely influence trading activity. Unexpected results in other matches leading up to the event could also impact perceptions of player form and confidence. Furthermore, expert analysis and public sentiment expressed through social media or sports news outlets can all contribute to shifts in the market. Major upsets or surprising tactical decisions during the match itself would also be key catalysts.
