Spotify curates a playlist of the most streamed songs globally and updates it on Fridays to reflect streaming data for the previous week, beginning on the preceding Friday and ending on Thursday. This market will resolve according to the second most-streamed song globally on Spotify for the week labeled October 9. Songs will be primarily ranked by order on the specified chart. If two or more songs are tied for any position, ties will be broken by alphabetical order of the songs' listed titles. This market will resolve to the song that occupies the second-highest finishing position after applying this ranking. If Spotify does not release its #2 song for the week labeled October 9 by October 10, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will default to "Other". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Spotify. The weekly top songs chart can be found on open.spotify.com under the "Charts" heading. Comparing prediction market odds to analyst forecasts reveals how collective intelligence differs from expert opinion. Often, this market demonstrates a different perspective than traditional music industry predictions, potentially identifying under- or over-hyped songs. While analysts may focus on pre-release buzz or historical performance, the market reflects real-time listener behavior as expressed through trading activity. Discrepancies can arise from factors analysts might overlook, such as viral trends or unexpected shifts in listener preferences, making this market a unique barometer of popular music.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each song's probability of success. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular song, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price, indicating decreasing belief. This dynamic pricing ensures the market odds continuously adapt to new information and trader sentiment.
This market resolves around Oct 9, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the official Spotify charts are published and the song ranked number two is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official Spotify global top 50 chart as published by Spotify. The market will determine which song held the number two position on the chart during the specified week, providing a clear and objective outcome based on publicly available data. Traders will then be able to claim their winnings based on the final result.
Several signals or events could significantly move this market before resolution. Unexpected viral trends on platforms like TikTok or YouTube could rapidly increase a song's popularity, driving up its price. Major artist endorsements or collaborations could also create a surge in interest. Conversely, controversies surrounding an artist or song could lead to a decline in its ranking. Streaming numbers released throughout the week, even unofficial estimates, will influence trader behavior. Any significant media coverage or shifts in listener habits will likely be reflected in the market’s odds.
