Spotify curates a playlist of the most streamed songs globally and updates it on Fridays to reflect streaming data for the previous week, beginning on the preceding Friday and ending on Thursday. This market will resolve according to the second most-streamed song globally on Spotify for the week labeled October 30. Songs will be primarily ranked by order on the specified chart. If two or more songs are tied for any position, ties will be broken by alphabetical order of the songs' listed titles. This market will resolve to the song that occupies the second-highest finishing position after applying this ranking. If Spotify does not release its #2 song for the week labeled October 30 by October 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will default to "Other". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Spotify. The weekly top songs chart can be found on open.spotify.com under the "Charts" heading. Currently, it's important to note that this market is driven by the wisdom of the crowd on Polymarket. Comparing these odds to traditional analyst forecasts reveals how public opinion differs from expert predictions regarding the Spotify charts. If analysts widely expect a particular song to hold the #2 position, but this market assigns a lower probability, it could indicate disagreement or a belief that other factors not considered by analysts will influence the outcome. Discrepancies between prediction market prices and external forecasts can present interesting insights.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each song’s likelihood of being the #2 song on Spotify this week. The price of each share reflects the collective assessment of all participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are directly influenced by supply and demand; increased buying pressure drives up the price, while increased selling pressure lowers it. This dynamic pricing allows for a constantly updated assessment of probabilities.
This market resolves around Oct 31, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the #2 song on Spotify as determined by the official Spotify charts at the close of the relevant week will be used to determine the winning outcome. The resolution will be based on publicly available data from Spotify and will reflect the song that held the #2 position for the majority of the week in question. The outcome will be determined by the official Spotify data.
Several factors could significantly shift the odds in this market. Unexpected surges in popularity for a song, perhaps driven by viral trends on social media platforms like TikTok, could dramatically increase its chances. Major media appearances or endorsements by influential artists could also impact a song's chart position. Conversely, controversies surrounding an artist or song could lead to a decline in streams and a corresponding decrease in its probability within this market. Any significant change in streaming patterns will likely be reflected in the market’s price action.
