Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which may be influenced by factors like house bias or initial public perception. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and risk management, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs about the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook odds, it could indicate an opportunity for arbitrage, where traders profit from the difference. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven by supply and demand, meaning that if many traders believe one outcome is likely, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date information.
