Sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a broader range of perspectives from individuals actively trading on the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Analyzing these differences can reveal insights into public perception and potential value opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the event’s likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Price movements are driven by supply and demand, meaning increased buying pressure will raise prices, while increased selling pressure will lower them. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date information available.
