Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, the prediction market odds may move in the opposite direction. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before a large influx of information or a major event impacting the perceived probabilities. This dynamic can create arbitrage opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, meaning traders can buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is driven entirely by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis of the Zavoloka vs. Simchuk match. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing mechanism.
