Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to predict the most likely outcome accurately. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, biases, or simply variations in opinion. If there's a significant difference between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it may indicate an opportunity for value betting, depending on your own assessment of the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or a centralized price setter.
