Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds to balance their risk and ensure profitability, while this market is driven purely by participants’ beliefs about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event's likelihood. Observing these differences can sometimes reveal insights into public sentiment or undervalued opportunities, though it’s important to remember that neither source guarantees accuracy.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts dynamically, reflecting the evolving consensus. This creates a real-time assessment of the event’s probability, distinct from static odds offered elsewhere.
