Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or seek to profit from public perception, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their belief about the outcome. It’s common to see prediction market odds move closer to the actual outcome as more information becomes available and more traders participate. However, discrepancies can still occur due to differing opinions and risk assessments between prediction market participants and sportsbook operators.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective intelligence of all traders participating, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the likely winner of the World Series of Darts match.
