Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. This is because prediction markets allow for a wider range of participants, incorporating diverse information and analysis. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, potentially identifying discrepancies or undervalued outcomes. It's common to see prediction market probabilities shift based on news, social media sentiment, and even late-breaking information not yet fully factored into sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts dynamically, providing a real-time assessment of market sentiment. The current price indicates what the collective market believes is the probability of a specific player winning the World Grand Prix darts match.
