Frequently asked questions

On Polymarket, the World Cup defensive liability market dashboard tracks real-time odds and trading activity for which team will concede the most goals during the group stage. The interface displays current prices, historical price movements, and 24-hour trading volume, allowing traders to monitor shifting sentiment as matches unfold. This market aggregates the collective predictions of traders betting on defensive performance across all group-stage fixtures, offering a dynamic view of which squads are perceived as most vulnerable at the back.

Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance liability and extract margin, while prediction markets like this one are priced by traders seeking profit through information advantages. Prediction markets frequently incorporate late-breaking team news, injury updates, and tactical shifts faster than traditional sportsbooks adjust their lines. For a defensive metric like goals conceded, real-time market pricing can reveal which teams traders genuinely perceive as fragile in defense, independent of betting volume or house margins.

On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker mechanism, where each outcome's price reflects the ratio of liquidity allocated to it. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As traders buy and sell shares representing each team's likelihood of conceding the most goals, the price adjusts in real time to balance supply and demand. Higher prices indicate stronger trader conviction that a particular squad will leak the most goals; lower prices suggest skepticism. This continuous repricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information throughout the group stage.

This market resolves around Jun 29, 2026, once the World Cup group stage concludes and final goal-concession tallies are verified. The outcome is determined by identifying which team allowed the highest number of goals across all their group matches. Resolution is confirmed against credible public reporting of official match results. Early resolution is possible if one team's goal-concession total becomes mathematically insurmountable before the final group fixtures are played.

Key injuries to defensive starters, tactical shifts toward more attacking formations, and head-to-head results in early group matches will all shift odds significantly. Surprise defeats or dominant victories reshape perceptions of which teams are genuinely vulnerable at the back. Fixture difficulty—facing elite attacking lineups—can accelerate goal-concession rates and alter market expectations. Weather conditions, referee tendencies, and late team news also influence trader positioning. As the group stage progresses, accumulating goal tallies narrow the field of contenders, creating sharper price movements toward the final matches.
