Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-time consensus from thousands of traders betting with their own capital, often diverging from traditional sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set fixed odds designed to balance liability and profit margin, while prediction markets adjust continuously based on order flow and new information. For a rare event like a World Cup hat trick, prediction markets may price in tail-risk scenarios differently than bookmakers. Comparing the two reveals whether the crowd expects higher or lower probability than professional oddsmakers.

On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the hat-trick event is priced as a binary contract: traders buy or sell shares representing yes (any player scores three goals in one match) or no (no hat trick occurs). The current price reflects the probability weighted by order book depth and recent trades. Prices move as new information emerges—injuries, lineup changes, or standout performances in qualifying rounds shift trader expectations. Polymarket's AMM and order-book hybrid model ensures prices stay responsive to real-time tournament developments.

The market resolves on Jul 20, 2026, after the final match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup concludes. Resolution depends on whether any player scores exactly three or more goals in a single match during the tournament. Official FIFA records and match statistics determine the outcome. Early resolution may occur if a hat trick is scored before the final match, triggering immediate settlement. Traders should monitor official tournament records and verified goal tallies as matches are played.

Key catalysts include player injuries or roster changes affecting top strikers, qualifying-round performance trends that signal offensive strength, and weather or pitch conditions during group-stage matches. Early tournament goals and scoring patterns will shift probabilities as data accumulates. Tactical shifts by major teams, surprise standout performances, and momentum swings in knockout rounds all influence trader expectations. As the tournament progresses, each match result either increases or decreases the likelihood of a hat trick occurring, driving continuous price adjustments on Polymarket.
