Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets rely on traders risking real capital to express genuine beliefs about outcomes. For this market, comparing Polymarket prices to major sportsbooks can reveal where consensus differs—prediction markets sometimes move faster on breaking news, while sportsbooks may incorporate sharper professional betting syndicates. Neither is inherently more accurate; they represent different information aggregation methods.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on one player's victory, and the price reflects the probability implied by cumulative trading. As new information surfaces—injuries, recent form, court conditions—traders adjust their positions, moving the price up or down. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures the market stays responsive to real-world developments throughout the lead-up to the match.
