Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and manage risk, while prediction markets aggregate the collective beliefs of traders risking real capital. This market may show higher or lower implied probabilities than traditional sports betting sites, depending on whether informed traders see value that bookmakers have missed. Comparing the two can reveal where consensus differs and help identify potential mispricing.
On Polymarket, traders set prices by buying and selling outcome shares in an automated market maker system. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each share represents a claim on one possible result, and the current price reflects the aggregate demand for that outcome. As new information emerges or trader sentiment shifts, prices adjust in real time. The spread between bid and ask prices indicates liquidity; tighter spreads suggest higher confidence and easier entry or exit for traders participating in this market.
