This market tracks whether any OPEC member country will formally announce its withdrawal from the organization during 2026. On Polymarket, the probability of at least one additional country leaving stands at 26.5%. Resolution will be determined by official government announcements, with credible news reporting serving as a secondary source. The UAE already withdrew on April 28, 2026, so the market will resolve Yes if any other current OPEC member makes an official exit announcement before the December 31, 2026 deadline.
On April 28, 2026, the United Arab Emirates officially announced that it would withdraw from OPEC. You can read more about that here: https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/uae-says-it-quits-opec-opec-statement-2026-04-28/. This market will resolve to “Yes” if another OPEC member officially announces its withdrawal from OPEC between market creation and December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM Gulf Standard Time. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. An official announcement made by any country that is an OPEC member at the time of market creation and has not already announced its exit will suffice, regardless of when the withdrawal is set to take effect. Informal announcements, statements from unnamed sources, or leaks will not qualify. This market’s primary resolution source will be official information from the respective governments; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket currently reflect 17.0% probability for another country leaving OPEC in 2026. This contrasts with traditional analyst forecasts, which tend to emphasize structural factors like oil price stability, geopolitical tensions, and individual member grievances. Markets often price in tail risks and sudden political shifts faster than consensus forecasts. Comparing the market view to expert commentary on OPEC cohesion and member dissatisfaction can reveal where traders see hidden departure risk.
On Polymarket, this event is priced using an automated market maker model where traders buy and sell shares representing yes or no outcomes. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current odds of 17.0% reflect the aggregate belief of all traders on the platform. Prices adjust continuously as new trades flow in, responding to news about member relations, production disputes, sanctions, or leadership changes. Liquidity of $157,875 total ensures that trades can be executed with reasonable slippage, making the market price a live consensus estimate of departure probability.
The market resolves on Dec 31, 2026, marking the end of 2026. Resolution hinges on whether any OPEC member nation formally announces and completes an exit from the organization during that calendar year. The determination will be based on official statements from OPEC, the departing nation's government, and credible international news sources. Any country that submits a withdrawal notice or formally leaves before the deadline triggers a yes resolution, while the market resolves no if all members remain through year-end.
Key catalysts include oil price crashes that strain member revenues and trigger exit discussions, geopolitical crises affecting major producers, and leadership changes in countries like Iraq, Nigeria, or Venezuela that might shift withdrawal sentiment. Sanctions on OPEC members, internal disputes over production quotas, or a major member's economic collapse could accelerate departure. Conversely, rising oil prices and renewed OPEC unity would likely lower exit odds. Watch for official statements from member governments, OPEC summit outcomes, and energy market volatility as leading indicators of changing market probability.
