Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different pricing mechanisms. Sportsbooks set odds to balance liability and generate profit margins, while prediction markets like this one are priced by traders who buy and sell shares based on their own assessments. Prediction markets can sometimes offer sharper, more efficient pricing because traders have direct financial incentive to identify mispricings. However, sportsbooks may occasionally offer better value depending on their risk management and the size of their trading pools. Comparing both sources helps bettors and analysts identify which venue offers the most attractive odds for their thesis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that allows traders to buy and sell outcome shares continuously. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Each team's probability is determined by the ratio of shares held in the liquidity pool, so as traders accumulate shares in one outcome, its price rises and others fall. This mechanism ensures prices update in real time as new information or sentiment shifts. Traders profit by buying undervalued outcomes and selling overvalued ones, which naturally drives prices toward consensus estimates of the true probability.
Several catalysts can shift odds significantly before resolution. Major roster changes, player injuries, or trades involving key competitors will influence perceptions of team strength. Performance in regional qualifying tournaments and scrims leading up to MSI provides real data on current form. Patch changes to the game itself can favor certain team playstyles or regional metas. Expert analysis, team statements, and betting syndicate activity also move prices as new information spreads. Traders should track esports news outlets, team social media, and patch notes to anticipate market-moving developments.
