Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to trade based on their own beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it may suggest differing opinions on the likely outcome of the first quarter. It's common to see prediction markets move more efficiently as new information becomes available.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book, meaning traders buy and sell contracts at prices they deem fair. The price of a contract represents the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy contracts predicting a certain result, the price increases, and vice versa. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth and trading volume influence how quickly prices adjust to new information or shifts in sentiment regarding the West Virginia vs Virginia game's first-quarter total.
