Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a ‘vig’ or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aims to represent the true probability of an event occurring, though it can still diverge due to differing information or biases. It’s common to see prediction markets reacting more quickly to new information than sportsbooks, as traders can instantly adjust their positions based on developments. Comparing the two can provide a more comprehensive view of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, ultimately reflecting the collective prediction of the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures the market odds constantly adapt to new information and changing sentiment surrounding the Tianjin tennis match.
