Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks may set initial lines based on power rankings and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, biases, or simply the dynamics of market participation. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to odds that diverge from, or converge with, those offered by sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand, with no centralized price setter. This allows for a dynamic and responsive assessment of the match’s potential results.
