Generally, prediction market odds tend to be more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially as the event approaches. This is because prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd, incorporating a wider range of information and perspectives. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market allows for continuous adjustment based on real-time trading activity. However, discrepancies can occur due to differing risk assessments and market dynamics. It’s always worthwhile to compare both to inform your decisions.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe a particular player will win, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading on the platform.
