Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Limitless, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the differing incentives and information sources. Sportsbooks primarily aim to set lines that balance betting action and ensure profit, while prediction markets incentivize participants to accurately forecast the outcome. This can lead to prediction markets reflecting a more nuanced and potentially more accurate assessment of probabilities, especially as new information emerges. However, arbitrage opportunities can arise when significant discrepancies exist, prompting traders to exploit the differences. This market’s price reflects the collective intelligence of its participants.
Polymarket and Limitless can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Limitless may diverge due to variations in user base, trading activity, and individual interpretations of available information regarding the Urgesi vs Babel match. Each platform attracts different types of traders with varying levels of expertise and risk tolerance. Furthermore, the liquidity and volume on each platform can influence price discovery. If one platform has significantly higher volume, its price is more likely to be considered the 'true' probability, but that doesn’t preclude the other platform from offering a valuable, alternative perspective. These factors contribute to the observed differences.
