Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own analysis and to balance betting action, while this market relies on traders directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. If a significant number of traders believe a player has a higher chance of winning than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will shift accordingly. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before major events or when new information emerges that isn't fully priced into sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust dynamically, providing a real-time assessment of the match’s potential results. The current volume indicates the level of interest and conviction surrounding each player’s chances.
