Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from sportsbook odds due to varying information and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market allows participants to directly express their beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists, it might indicate that the crowd perceives information differently than the sportsbook, or that one venue has access to unique insights. It's important to consider both sources when forming your own assessment of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the crowd. This dynamic pricing allows for a constantly updated view of expectations, driven purely by supply and demand within the market.
