Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and aim to profit, while this market allows individuals to express their beliefs directly. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Comparing the odds can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, but remember that each represents a different form of forecasting and has its own inherent biases.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket and isn’t influenced by external factors or a centralized authority setting the odds.
