Prediction market odds often differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks due to the wisdom of the crowd effect. Sportsbooks set their lines based on models and internal analysis, while this market reflects the collective predictions of many individual traders. If a significant number of people believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, they can trade against it on Polymarket, driving the prediction market odds closer to what they perceive as the true probability. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a lot of information is available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket and isn't influenced by external factors or other prediction markets.
