Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their risk and ensure profitability, while this market represents the aggregated beliefs of informed traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing a player's chances, the odds on Polymarket will likely move in the opposite direction. It's common to see prediction markets outperform traditional bookmakers, especially as more information becomes available leading up to the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring.
